Bus, V-Hire, Taxi, or Hire Car with Driver and then a banca to Malapascua Island

Bus will cost less than 250 pesos. Ceres Liners leaves from Northern Bus Terminal to Maya.

V-hire will cost 3 - 6 times that price.

Taxi will cost approx. 2,200 - 3000 pesos.

Car with Driver from SDR is slightly more expensive than a taxi but you will travel in a roomy SUV.

Bancas from Maya are via scheduled times and cost is less than 200 pesos. However, it is advised to pay more and arrange a private banca or a banca via the management of the accommodation you are staying with. This will take a lot of frustration out of your journey.

You can get a taxi from the ferry terminal. It will cost approximately 120 pesos and take around 20 - 40 mins. depending on traffic.

Another alternative is Jeepney. Much cheaper but will take much longer as you need to change Jeepneys.

Alternatively, if you are staying at a hotel they can normally arrange transport for you to meet you at the port. The cost will not be that much more than a taxi and you would normally have a much nicer car and accountability.

You have the following transport options to get around Cebu:

1. Tricycles (A.K.A. trikes or hubal hubal)
2. Jeepneys
3. Bus
4. Taxis
5. Hire Car with Driver

For example, if you are going from Mactan Island/ Marina Mall to say the Shangri-la. A Jeepney would cost approx 10 pesos. If you took a taxi; 120 pesos.

If you go from Marina Mall to say Cebu city (Ayala Mall), a series of Jeepneys (as you would need to take 2-3 different ones to do that journey, would cost less than 20 pesos. A taxi to Ayala would cost around 100 pesos.

Going longer distances is another deal. To go from say Mactan Island or Cebu City to Maya (which is the Northern tip of Cebu) would cost around 2200 - 3000 pesos via taxi; depending on your negotiation skills. It is a 3 - 4 hour journey. Keep in mind the fact that the driver has to factor in a long drive back to Cebu with little or no chance of a passenger. All things being equal, not a bad deal.

The other alternative for a trip such as the one above is via either V Hire or Bus. The later can be boarded at either of the two main bus terminals: North and South Bus Terminals (depending of which way your heading!) The only curve ball is if you are traveling West. in that case you board at the South Terminal. The main bus company is Ceres, that same trip will cost you a mere fraction of the taxi trip (usually less than 250 pesos for even the longest trips - North or South of Cebu), however, this is not a normal 'bus' experience as one might find in most developed countries. Expect, cramped conditions, and even vendors boarding the bus at every stop.

V Hire will cost 3 - 6 times more than a bus. A V-Hire is simply a Japanese Van that usually seats 8 people. The advantage is less people and limited stops. You also don't need to put up with vendors.

hello:

we recommend both Cathay Pacific and Cebu Pacific Airlines from Hong Kong. Try to compare rates online: www.cathaypacific.com and www.cebupacificair.com

you will probably find that Cebu Pacific is about half the price. their schedules are comparable to Cathays so that may influence your decision!
